Alex Schaub
Alex Schaub, born in Switzerland 1969, lives and works in Amsterdam. His background starts with the fascination of music and technology. After his apprentice as a tool maker in Switzerland 1986-1990, he worked for two years designing production machines for the Swiss Watch company Ronda SA. As he was more into music than into the watch industry, he started with his studies bass guitar and piano at the ‘Jazz Berufsschule Luzern’ 1992-1995. During this time he developed a musical style more related to the theater- and performance field, and got interested in sound as a phenomenon itself. On the Royal Conservatory, The Hague NL, he studied Image & sound and holds a bachelor of art 1995-1999. He graduated from the Institute of Sonology, also at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague, with a MA in music in 2001. Since 2005 he has been working at Waag Society in Amsterdam as technical team leader. Since 2008 he is manager of the Fablab Amsterdam. He graduated on the Fabacademy course mas863 ‘how to make almost anything’ at MIT, Center of bits and atoms.
As a Fab Lab expert, he adviced many Fablab initiatives among others:The Netherlands, Portugal, France, Germany, Switzerland, Norway, Denmark, Finnland, Russia, Austria, Czech Republic, Italy, Greece, Island, England, Irland, Indonesia, Thailand, Japan, India, Slovenia.
