Ine Gevers
Ine Gevers is curator, writer and activist. In 2007 she founded the Niet Normaal Foundation, with the purpose of mounting artistic campaigns concerning socially relevant themes and aimed at broad audiences. The independant organisation has its roots in the 1990's, when artistic director Ine Gevers and board chair Hester Alberdingk Thijm curated Ik + de Ander. Art and the Human Condition in 1994. Ik + de Ander is renowned as the Netherlands’ first ‘engaged’ art exhibition and received international critical acclaim and recognition.
Internationally credited exhibitions and publications are: Niet Normaal. Difference on Display, Beurs van Berlage, Amsterdam, 2009/10 www.nietnormaal.nl. Niet Normaal travelled to Berlin in 2011, will open in Liverpool July 2012, and will be part of the Olympic Games Cultural Program this summer. Encountering the Culture of the Norm, De Geuzen, Amsterdam, 2000; Place, Position, Presentation, Public, Maastricht, 1992, and Cultural Identity: Fiction or Necessity, Maastricht, 1990. Currently she prepares the major art exhibition Yes Naturally. How art saves the world, a collaboration of Foundation Niet Normaal with the Municipal Museum The Hague.
