NIMk Presents Planet M, May 16–20

The Netherlands Media Art Institute presents Planet M, its brand-new mobile infrastructure and laboratory for media art and digital culture. At DEAF2012, Planet M will host installations, workshops and presentations representing the latest developments in Augmented and Mixed Reality, plus fascinating new types of user interfaces and artist projects. Esther Polak and Ivar van Bekkum, Sander Veenhof and other media artists will host workshops, events and presentations.

Planet M contains amongs others an online and on site program mainly focused on the NIMk collection which contains an extensive collection of video and media art starting in 1978 to which new works are constantly being added. Planet M shows through a specially developed interface more than 200 masterpieces from this collection. The main aim of the interface is to give the public an easy access to the collection by tags that are close to the public like love, children, humor, money, animals etc. Visitors are able to select their own favorite media art works and save them in a playlist. These playlists are published online on planetm.nl and on twitter. The public can share its playlist on the social networks by going to the planetm.nl website.
