Sealed - Jessica de Boer

Sealed is an installation in which an encounter between salt and ice reveals the magical forces of nature. When a ten kg solid salt crystal extracted from a mine in Sicily and a thousand kg block of ice produced in Belgium are brought into contact in the installation, a thermodynamic process begins. In the installation’s initial state, both entities are in balance with their own environments. During the eighteen days of the exhibition, the salt and ice will seek to establish a new common balance, as the ice melts and the two substances mix. The result will be a dynamic equilibrium bonding the two entities together.
